AIMS OF THE COURSE:
Successful management of organizations requires an understanding of the nature of human behavior in corporate and other environments, styles of motivations, leadership, power and authority, strategies of organizational design and change, teamwork and collaboration, and the measurement of organizational effectiveness. This course is designed to help students understand these very interesting complexities by learning about the key theoretical concepts and by directly experiencing some of them during the course activities. The combination of academic perspective and personal engagement should create a powerful learning experience.
COURSE SYLLABUS:
Main topics of the course: - Purpose and nature of Organizational Behavior - Foundations of Individual Behavior - Motivation and Emotion - Human Personality and Values - Foundations of Group Behavior - Teamwork - Communication in Organization - Basic Approaches to Leadership - Power and Politics - Conflict and Negotiation - Organizational Structure and Culture - Organizational Change and Stress Management Upon completing the course students should understand human factor in modern organization, define the purpose and nature of the field of organizational behavior and apply different concepts related to team work, leadership, conflict management, and business communication.
TEACHING METHODS & EXAMINATION METHODS:
Final grade is based on three individual homework assignments, on class attendance & participation, and final comprehensive exam Grade Distribution: 1) Class Participation in each session: 10% 2) Individual Homework Assignments, (10 pts each): 30% 3) Final comprehensive exam (60 pts) In order to successfully complete this class and obtain a course credit, 55% is the requirement. Ad1) Students are expected to come to class regularly, participate in discussions and complete in-class assignments. A sign-up sheet will be distributed during each class to record the attendance. It is a student responsibility to sign up in each class session. Ad2) Homework assignments (maximum length: 1 page) are to be submitted on time (see class calendar), as they represent a basis for class discussion, late submissions are not accepted. Ad3) The exam is closed book.
