Course Description:
This course is designed for promoting communication skills to low intermediate freshmen. Students will learn how to speak English in different situations in daily life. The syllabus is organized around cross-cultural concepts that provide opportunities to approach listening and speaking with confidence. A variety of activities like role-play, pair-work, group discussion, and presentations will be provided to improve the student's English speaking ability. Listening to daily English broadcast teaching program, Landmark English, is required to improve their listening comprehension. In addition, their reading ability will be increased through reading various materials. After class, students are asked to use the interactive software "Tell Me More" to do more listening and speaking practices. One more required after-class assignment is e-mail writing. Hopefully students' writing ability can be improved by e-mail message exchange with key pals from different countries.
Goals:
To increase students' interests and confidence in learning English.
To systematically build students' ability to present their own ideas, opinions, and feelings accurately and confidently.
To prepare students to understand, speak, read and write English in the real world.
