Introduction
This document sets out the core, entry-le vel knowledge, skills, and abilities that a candidate must be able to demonstrate in order to become a TCM Doctor recognized by the regulatory authority for TCM Doctors in British Columbia. The competencies are described as "Entry Level." Exceptional or advanced knowledge and skill is not demanded, rather the appropriate, essential proficiencies as befits an entry-level practitioner is a required competency. The outline lists the basic "knowledge, skills, and abilities" which are required to practice safely and effectively as a TCM Doctor. The required knowledge, skills, and abilities for an entry-level TCM Doctor include the ability to investigate the patient's illness, identify the pattern of the illness, determine the therapeutic strategy, form the treatment objectives, and carry out herbal treatment. TCM Doctors are expected to be able to demonstrate these competencies upon entry to practice and to maintain these competencies throughout their careers.
