FESTIVAL OVERVIEW
The Tempe Festival of the Arts consistently ranks among the Top 20 art festivals in the nation according to Sunshine Artist Magazine and has received the Pinnacle Award from the International Festival and Events Association. The spring and fall events each attract nearly 225,000 visitors to the Mill Avenue District over the course of a 3-day weekend. Quality artists are fundamental to the success of the event. Each year, the Festival receives hundreds of applications from visual artists throughout North America. From these applicants, a jury comprised of members of the local art community selects the top artisans in each category to participate in the Festival. During the Festival, an awards jury then selects the best overall artist and the top artist in each category. Participants are separated into 18 different artistic categories for judging, ranging from woodwork to photography to ceramics and even wearable art. More than 400 artist booths line Mill Avenue and the surrounding streets presenting unique, and hand-made artwork that offers visitors a distinctive shopping experience. While the Tempe Festival of the Arts primarily focuses on art and the artists that create it, there also is a wide variety of other activities for guests to enjoy. Buskers and musicians provide a wide range of entertainment for festival-goers, located throughout the venue. Performances by a number of well-known local musicians keep audiences in high spirits throughout the day. In addition to the scheduled entertainment, street performers, vendors, sponsor exhibits and entertainment booths are set up for the amusement of Festival visitors. In addition to arts and entertainment, the Tempe Festival of the Arts offers support to the Tempe community. A portion of the Festival's proceeds are shared with local charities. Kids Innovation Station, offers arts activities for children's interactive entertainment---and education! Kids at the Festival get a hands-on opportunity to learn about art by making art that they can take home free! At this year's festivals, kids were offered art projects in photography, wax resist, fresco, and hat making. The Food Court Festival Food is available throughout the Festival, with Mill Avenue District restaurants, cafes and bars ready to serve attendees by offering special menus of quick and easy food and drink. In addition, the Festival provides a Festival Food Court and scatters snack vendors throughout the venue. Arizona Wine Festival In partnership with the Arizona Wine Growers Association, the Tempe Festival of the Arts is proud to continue our presentation of the Arizona Wine Festival Gardens, bringing the best in Arizona wines to complement the ambiance of a fine arts festival environment! Twelve Arizona wine growers are on hand for tastings, serving, and are selling their fruits of the vine by the bottle or case on-site. The Arizona Wine Festival is on 7th Street, just west of Mill Avenue.
