    Prologue
In September 1994, the USC's Board of Trustees adopted a Strategic Plan for the University, which includes a goal of building upon the school's strong international base of alumni, students, and established relationships. Southern California's position as 'the gateway to the pacific rim' (USC catalogue) is an added incentive for USC to enhance the school's image as a center for global education, research, and career development. Out of this internationalization incentive, the impetus for USC to establish proper USC's international offices were born, of which there are now 4 regional offices (Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan). This document concerns the USC Regional Office in Hong Kong, which also covers Mainland China and Macau. The 5 Missions Of the USC International Offices (in no particular order of importance): To facilitate USC's academic projects in the particular country To assist the local alumni To establish USC's relationships with the Education institutions, Governments and Multinationals To help in recruiting qualified students, to act as a liaison point between current students and parents While working to establish the first 4 missions, the office seek to build tremendous goodwill, instilling pride in the wide network of USC alumni and their friends, encouraging them to help advance
the University in the long run, through gift giving and otherwise.
