Dear participants of the 12th ISSS,
I warmly welcome you to the 12th International Symposium on Separation Sciences in Lipica, Slovenia. It seems that yearly Symposia organised by the CEGSS group have become well recognised and fulfill the idea of connecting scientists from the Central European region and giving them the opportunity to present their latest results of scientific work from various areas of separation sciences. This time the Symposium is organised by the Section of Analytical Chemistry of the Slovenian Chemical Society and the Austrian Society for Analytical Chemistry. Here, I can also announce that the 13th symposium in this series will be organized by the colleagues from Slovakia. The development of columns with new stationary phases and selective detectors offers better separation of many related compounds in an increasing number of chromatographic applications. The ISSS 2006 programme will cover many aspects of fundamental research as well as applications in chromatographic, electromigration and related analytical separation techniques. The programme also includes two workshops on Validation of analytical methods and Sample preparation. In the next days, we have a tight schedule with a number of presentations. Nevertheless, we have also tried to organise an interesting social programme and I hope that you will find some time to enjoy the colours of the Carst region, which are the most picturesque during autumn. I suggest you make the most of this time and meet other participants and share your experiences and knowledge. This symposium was organised with the help of many coworkers, companies and organisations. I would like to express our gratitude to the Slovenian Research Agency and other sponsors for the financial support and to all who provided help in preparing this symposium. In the name of the scientific and organizing committees I wish you a successful and enjoyable stay in our country.
