    ANALYSIS AND CONTROL OF HARMONIC OVERVOLTAGES DURING EARLY
    STAGES OF POWER SYSTEM RESTORATION

    ABSTRACT:Power system topological structure at early
    stage of its restoration is quite different from that under normal
    operation. When a parallel resonance condition is composed by
    system impedance and capacitive parameter of transmission
    line, the harmonic distortion caused by put the transformer
    under no-load or light load into operation will be amplified,
    thereby a rather high harmonic overvoltage will appear. The
    authors research the control of transformer's magnetizing
    inrush current and the improvement of frequency response
    characteristics of power system, the most effective control
    operation is determined by sensitivity analysis, using wavelet
    analysis the magnetizing inrush current of transformer is
    analyzed in both time and frequency domain and the features of
    magnetizing inrush current in different frequency interval are
    extracted. To save the time for simulation, based on the concept
    of signal energy the varying trend of voltage waveform is
    assessed to determine the end time of electro-magnetic
    simulation and the fast evaluation and effective control of
    harmonic overvoltage are implemented. The calculation results
    for typical cranking power system show that the proposed
    method is effective.
