INSTRUCTIONS
Please retain this sheet for your information. DO NOT submit it with the application.
The Office of African-American Affairs appreciates your interest in the Peer Advisor Program. The Peer Advisor Program, which was established in 1984, is designed to assist Black first-year and entering transfer students with their transition to the University of Virginia. Its success is dependent upon committed, devoted upperclassmen who are willing to share their time, energy, talents, and knowledge with members of the entering class.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
1. Complete the attached application.
2. Please remove the Instructions Sheet, prior to submitting your application. It contains important
information about the dates and times of the Peer Advisor Orientation and Training Sessions in the spring and in August. If you are selected as a Peer Advisor, you will be expected to attend each of these sessions.
3. Please respond to the application questions thoroughly and clearly. The quality of the essay responses is
crucial to the selections process. Incomplete or underdeveloped answers will preclude
an applicant's proceeding to the next selections phase, the interview.
4. All responses must be typed. You may put them on separate sheets of paper.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
The application deadline is Friday, January 29, 2010, at 5:00 p.m. Applications arriving late will not be accepted.
Completed applications must be submitted to the Office of African-American Affairs, #4 Dawson's Row.
Notification of first-round selections decisions will be sent by letter the week of February 8, 2010. If you have not received a letter by February 15, 2009, please contact the Office of African-American Affairs at (434) 924-7923. In the application, please make sure that you give your complete mailing address to ensure your letter arrives in a timely fashion.
