2009 Student-Athlete Exit Survey Descriptive Report

BACKGROUND
Since1999,theUniversityofWashington'sDepartmentofIntercollegiateAthleticshascontractedtheUWOffice ofEducationalAssessment(OEA)toconductasurveyforstudentswhoareleavingtheathleticsprogram.The surveyrepresentscollaborationbetweenthetwooffices,withOEAresponsiblefordataanalysisandreporting andIntercollegiateAthleticstakingonthetaskofadministeringthesurveyandtryingtoyieldashigha responserateaspossible.Thisreportprovidesabriefdescriptivesummaryoffindingsfromthe2009UW AthleteExitSurvey(forstudentswholeftfromFall2008throughSpring2009).
METHODS
Aprincipalgoalofthe2009surveywastocontinuetoincreasetheresponserateandrepresentationacross differentsports.Table1showsthenumberofsurveyscompletedforeachsport,theresponseratebysport,and thetotalnumberofstudentsexitingthatprogramduringthe2008‐2009academicyearaccordingto departmentalrecords.Inaddition,thecompletionratefor2009ispresentedalongsidethecompletionratein 2008toassessimpactofthesurveyadministrationefforts. Todate,theexitsurveyadministrationprocesshasprimarilyfocusedonseniorswithexhaustedeligibilityor seniorsnotreturningtocompete.Student‐athleteswhotransferred,werecut,orquittheathleticprogramare notcurrentlyincluded;however,ICAstaffhavecreatedanadministrativeproceduretoattempttocapturethese studentsforthe2009‐2010survey.
