A compliance market in the US will allow for REDD and create immense funding opportunities; Both the Senate and House of Representatives' most recent, pending legislation will specifically highlight REDD; Current, voluntary REDD projects are being implemented in countries with: stable governmental institutions, the highest rates of deforestation and signigicant biomass; Private investors are willing to commit significant sums of money - totaling over US$10 billion dollars per year - only if the US develops a compliance market.
