Sioux City Diocese ordains Nickless as Bishop

ast Friday afternoon, the Sioux City Catholic Diocese officially filled a position left for over two years as Father R. Walker Nickless was ordained as Bishop of the Sioux City Diocese at The Church of the Nativity. The services for the ordination began at 2:00 p.m. and finished at 4: 15 p.m. with a meet and greet following the event. The ordination was telecast not only for Sioux City by means of Channel 4 News with commentary provided by Dave Medsen, but an on-line telecast was available for people at the Vatican. In 1969, Bishop Nickless received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Thomas Theological Seminary in Denver, Col. In the fall of that same year, Bishop Nickless entered the North American College in Rome and began studying at the Pontifical Gregorian University where he received a Bachelor Degree in Sacred Theology in 1972 and a Masters Degree a year later.
